The
Sculptures:
Each of the five mechanical sculptures consists of motorized elements
mounted on a sheet of metal inside a brushed aluminum suitcase (see photos).
Underneath the mounting surface of each resides the circuitry that powers
the sculpture and one or more Pic Microcontrollers that have been programmed
to give it its unique behavior patterns (more below on how this programming
is accomplished). All of the sculptures are connected to a central "hub"
suitcase by means of thick yellow rubber cabling. The central hub provides
power to the sculptures and also contains a Pic Microcontroller which
allows one to switch the other sculptures on and off. This is accomplished
by means of the violinist's footpedal, which is connected directly to
the hub suitcase.
